Second Cuban National Gathering concludes in Puerto Rico

Augusto Monge, representing the Free Cuba Foundation, participated in the Second Cuban National Gathering in Puerto Rico and he sent us the agreements reached at this historic meeting.

SECOND CUBAN NATIONAL GATHERING AGREEMENTSIn the Second Meeting we ratified the "Agreement for Democracy" which was incorporated as an essential part of the Declaration of San Juan approved on August 15, 2015 at the First National Cuban Gathering considering that it contains the elements necessary to build "The New Republic of Cuba" that we all want and for which we struggle. Said agreement arose in 1998, was signed by most of the Cuban opposition in Cuba and in exile, and received international support.

During the Second National Cuban Gathering fundamental principles were agreed upon for the New Republic of Cuba and complementary points from a summary of the papers presented were reaffirmed. Prior to a new republic the following steps should include: 1) the establishment of a Commission against Impunity, 2) audit - with a retroactive nature - of the management of companies present in Cuba in order that the conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO) are respected, and 3) measures to ensure transparency and integrity and combat corruption in public administration and electoral processes.

Likewise, the creation of a Cuban National Congress was approved to form a common political-civic action front against the Castro dictatorship with the goal of re-establishing in the country the trampled rights, freedom and democracy in the face of action. The Congress will have a Coordinating Board composed of a section in Cuba and in exile that is empowered to create working committees.

 
Participants of the Second Cuban National Gathering also:

    1.) Registered their deep concern for the health of our brother in the struggle, Guillermo Fariñas, 2010 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought of the European Parliament. August 14th was proclaimed the Day of Nonviolence in Cuba in honor of his sacrifice and that of other activists who have risked their lives using the hunger strike as a tool for nonviolent struggle.

    2.) They agreed to pay special attention to the ruthless systematic repression exercised by the Cuban regime against members of the democratic peaceful opposition and also address concerns of the political prisoners and those who suffer religious persecution. For the treatment of our women, condemned in a special way, the repression against the Ladies in White and other women's organizations.

    3.) Denounced the repressive exercise of power as a root cause of all forms of violence and other abuses that affect Cuban society, and requested the support of governments, international institutions and all people of good will who defend human rights.

    4.) Denounced the indifference of the company Google in violation of its code of corporate conduct and demanded that it establish a correct policy to provide wireless internet service with no censorship and without dependence on the regime in benefit of the Cuban people.

    5.) Solicited the government of the United States to seek an agreement to connect an internet cable to Cuba (from the US or any other country) and, if necessary, to finance it with the frozen funds of the Republic of Cuba by the United States.

    6.) Expressed support for the Venezuelan people and the Table of Democratic Unity (MUD in Spanish), whose representatives accompanied us, in their struggle for human rights. They demanded the immediate release of Leopoldo Lopez and all political prisoners, and supported the demand that the recall referendum to be held this year as the current constitution stipulates.

    7.) Stressing that observers who supported us in this activity, expressed their solidarity with the Chinese and Tibetan people in their struggle against communist oppression and with the people of Ukraine, condemning the Russian invasion, demanding the return of the illegally annexed territories of Crimea  and the early release of prisoners of war.

    8.) Deeply thanked the tremendous efforts and negotiations made by United Cubans of Puerto Rico and the generosity of donors and the practical leadership of Guillermo Toledo and the support lent by his family.

Concluye Segundo Encuentro Nacional Cubano

ACUERDOS DEL SEGUNDO ENCUENTRO NACIONAL CUBANO 

En el Segundo Encuentro ratificamos el “Acuerdo por la Democracia” que se incorporó como parte esencial de la Declaración de San Juan aprobada el 15 de agosto de 2015 en el Primer Encuentro Nacional Cubano por considerar que contiene elementos necesarios para construir “La Nueva República de Cuba” que todos queremos y por la cual luchamos. Dicho Acuerdo surgió en 1998, fue firmado por gran parte de la oposición cubana dentro de Cuba y en el exilio, y recibió respaldo internacional.

Durante este Segundo Encuentro Nacional Cubano se acordaron principios fundamentales para la Nueva República de Cuba y se reafirmaron puntos complementarios a partir de una síntesis de las ponencias presentadas. Los pasos previos a una nueva república deben incluir: 1.) el establecimiento de una Comisión contra la Impunidad, 2.) la fiscalización -con carácter retroactivo- de la gestión de las empresas presentes en Cuba con el fin de que se respeten los convenios de la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT), y 3.) medidas que garanticen la transparencia e integridad y combatan la corrupción en la gestión pública y los procesos electorales.

Asimismo, se aprobó la creación de un Congreso del Encuentro Nacional Cubano para formar un frente común de acción cívica-política contra la dictadura castrista con el fin de restablecer en el país los derechos conculcados, la libertad y la democracia. Dicho Congreso tendrá una Mesa de Coordinación compuesta por una sección en Cuba y una en el exilio y está facultada para crear comisiones de trabajo.

Los participantes del Segundo Encuentro Nacional Cubano también:

1.) Hicieron constar su honda preocupación por el estado de salud de nuestro hermano de lucha, Guillermo Fariñas, Premio Sajarov 2010 de Libertad de Pensamiento de Parlamento Europeo. Se proclamó el 14 de agosto como el Día de la Noviolencia en Cuba en homenaje a su sacrificio y el de otros activistas que han puesto en riesgo sus vidas utilizando la huelga de hambre como herramienta de lucha no violenta.

2.) Acordaron prestar especial atención a la despiadada represión sistemática que ejerce el régimen cubano contra miembros de la oposición pacífica democrática y asimismo ocuparse de los presos políticos y de los que sufren la persecución religiosa. Por tratarse de nuestras mujeres, condenaron de modo especial la represión contra las Damas de Blanco y otras organizaciones femeninas.

3.) Denunciaron el ejercicio represivo del poder como causa fundamental de todas las formas de violencia y otros atropellos que afectan la sociedad cubana, y solicitaron el apoyo de gobiernos, instituciones internacionales y todas las personas de buena voluntad que defienden los derechos humanos.

4.) Denunciaron la indiferencia de la empresa Google en violación de su código de conducta corporativa y le reclamaron que establezca una política correcta para proveer servicio de internet inalámbrico sin censura y sin dependencia del régimen en beneficio del pueblo cubano.

5.) Solicitaron al gobierno de Estados Unidos que procure un acuerdo para conectar un cable de internet a Cuba (desde Estados Unidos o cualquier otro país) y, de ser necesario, que lo financie con los fondos congelados de la República de Cuba por Estados Unidos.

6.) Expresaron su apoyo al pueblo venezolano y la Mesa de Unidad Democrática(MUD), cuyos representantes nos acompañaron, en su lucha por los derechos humanos. Reclamaron la inmediata liberación de Leopoldo López y todos los presos políticos, y respaldaron la demanda de que se celebre en el presente año el referendo revocatorio contemplado en la constitución vigente.

7.) Destacando a observadores que nos apoyaron en esta actividad, expresaron su solidaridad con los pueblos chinos y tibetanos en su lucha contra la opresión comunista pueblo y con el pueblo de Ucrania, condenando la invasión rusa, exigiendo la devolución de los territorios de Crimea anexados ilegalmente y la pronta liberación de los prisioneros de guerra.

8.) Agradecieron profundamente los enormes esfuerzos y gestiones realizados por Cubanos Unidos de Puerto Rico y la generosidad de los donantes así como el liderazgo práctico de Guillermo Toledo y el apoyo prestado por su familia.

Paying homage to Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet before he returns to Cuba

Newly formed Inspire America Foundation hosts homage for Cuban opposition leader

Hundreds gathered at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables last night to pay homage to Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, who will soon be returning to Cuba. Amaury Gutierrez, who in 2008 organized a concert benefit for Dr. Biscet opened the event with his music. It is a long way from those long years campaigning for his freedom. It's been five years since Bono gave a shout out for Dr. Biscet at a U2 concert in Miami. However the struggle for Cuba's freedom continues.
